Diseases of the face and the oral cavity
The face is clearly the part of the body where the surgical removal of any pathology, like a tumor, becomes equally important with the aesthetic restoration of the area.
For many important operations of the facial area, knowledge of the anatomy of the facial nerve is of utmost importance. This is the nerve which is responsible for the movements of the muscles and, hence, for the expressions and the symmetry of the face.
In other operations, on the other hand, the involvement of the surgeon with knowledge in reconstructive surgery becomes not only desirable but also necessary.
Regardless of aesthetics, the involvement of the mouth in the functions of respiration, food intake and speech also makes necessary the functional restoration of the areas which are subjected to surgical removal.
